Andrew Miller: 2000

Regional Fire & Rescue Department of Casa Grande

While en route to U.S. Navy Reserve training aboard a flight to Seoul, South Korea, firefighter Andrew Miller of the Casa Grande Regional Fire and Rescue Department saved the life of a five-year-old boy experiencing violent seizures mid-flight. With no medical professionals on board, Miller assessed the situation, administered oxygen, and maintained the child’s airway for three hours in the plane’s galley until an emergency landing in San Francisco. Even during landing, he continued life-saving efforts, ensuring a seamless transfer of care to paramedics upon arrival. Miller’s extraordinary actions exemplify the compassion and dedication of the Arizona Fire Service, earning him the U.S. Navy Achievement Medal for Recognition of Effort for his heroic assistance.
