Santa Rita Fire District
Engineer and Paramedic Amy Shultz of the Santa Rita Fire District has dedicated more than a decade to serving Southern Arizona with skill, leadership, and compassion. Since joining SRFD in 2013, Amy has risen through the ranks, earning her Paramedic certification in 2018 and promotion to Engineer in 2020.
Beyond her service on the front lines, Amy leads Camp Nitro, a program that introduces teenagers to firefighting, teamwork, and leadership, inspiring the next generation of first responders. She also volunteers with the Helmet Peak Volunteer Fire Department and instructs at fire academies, sharing her knowledge and experience with new recruits.
Active in the firefighter community, Amy serves as Vice President of South Pima Firefighters Local 4125 and works with the Greater Tucson Fire Foundation to promote wellness and resilience programs for first responders.
Her dedication to public safety, commitment to mentoring youth, and service to both career and volunteer fire departments exemplify the spirit of the Firefighter of the Year Award. In earning this recognition, Amy becomes only the second woman in the 32-year history of the award to receive this honor.
