Jim Kennedy: 2012

Prescott Fire Department

Captain Jim Kennedy has dedicated over three decades to the Prescott Fire Department, where he has made significant contributions as a firefighter, paramedic, and training officer. He played a pivotal role in establishing joint training among Prescott, Central Yavapai, and Chino Valley fire districts, efforts that proved crucial during the 2012 Whiskey Row fire, where his strategic decisions helped contain the blaze. Known for his compassion and expertise as a paramedic, Kennedy was awarded Prescott’s first Medal of Gallantry for rescuing a wheelchair-bound man from a structure fire and has received multiple accolades, including the City of Prescott’s Achievement of Civic Excellence Award.

Starting as a reserve in 1986, Kennedy became a full-time firefighter in 1991, a paramedic in 1994, and has served as Captain for 15 years while often acting as Battalion Chief. Beyond his service, he has spent 15 years as an adjunct instructor at Yavapai College, training nearly 2,000 firefighters, many of whom now serve in Prescott-area departments. Kennedy’s career exemplifies dedication, leadership, and a commitment to both his profession and community.
