Rob Irons: 2019

Greer Fire District

Rob Irons brings over three decades of experience and compassion to the fire service. He began his career with Phoenix Fire Department, serving 23 years and retiring in 2007 at the rank of Captain. Throughout his tenure, he worked at some of the city’s busiest stations near County Hospital, gaining extensive experience with medical emergencies, including individuals in crisis.

Even in retirement, Rob’s belief that “once a firefighter, always a firefighter” remained true. He responded to numerous off-duty emergencies—including 12 CPR incidents and 6 vehicle accidents—before joining the Greer Fire District in 2019, where he now serves full-time and proudly holds the distinction of being their oldest recruit.

Rob’s extensive training, calm presence, and deep sense of empathy were instrumental during a critical incident in 2019, when he helped de-escalate a suicidal firefighter in crisis and ensured the safety of his young son. His leadership and ability to connect quickly and compassionately helped prevent what could have been a devastating outcome. His efforts were recognized by fellow firefighters, chiefs, and behavioral health teams across Arizona.

A proud Arizona native, Rob lives in Eager, AZ, with his wife Gina. They share four daughters and a deep commitment to public service. Rob continues to lead by example, proving that wisdom, humility, and heart are the cornerstones of a life dedicated to helping others.
